The method, in short
We counted what exists in our own code: screens people use, server functions, database tables, scheduled automations and third-party services wired in. Tests, generated files and outside libraries are left out.
Then we priced it the way agencies estimate work: about 24 hours per screen, 10 per server function, 4 per data table, 12 per automation and 32 per integration, plus 30% for project management, design and testing. To stay conservative, small database functions are not counted as server functions. The total is multiplied by $125 to $200 an hour, in line with published 2026 US rates for mid-level to senior developers. Timelines assume a four-person team with 30 productive hours each per week, plus four weeks of sales and scoping.
Our time is calendar days from the first line of code. East Coast Mortgage started from an early prototype in 2025, so we count from its rebuild in July 2026. Livelihood is still in invite-only beta, so its time runs to the date of the count.
These are estimates of what a typical agency would quote, not quotes we received. Every project is different, and your real number comes after the consultation.
